Dayne Brummet interview:

Where are you from?
Chicago

Where do you live?
Ocean Beach, CA, but I'm about to transplant up to LA for a while.

What made you move to the west coast?
The weather was much better, so I could skate outdoors all year round.   I was really ready for a change.

How long have you been skateboarding?
17 years.

How much longer do you think you can keep going?
I'm just getting started.   I don't think age means as much in skateboarding as most people think.   I keep seeing older and older guys ripping.   I skated with Lance Mountain yesterday and he was skating like a young kid.   He would take a bad slam and just pop right up and keep going.   That is really inspiring to me.

Who are your sponsors?
Premium Skateboards, Bones Wheels and Bearings, GrindKing, Power, Randoms, and Willy's Workshop.

What do you like to skate?
I like to skate absolutely everything.   I skate more street than anything else, though.   As long as it's smooth, I'm happy.

What do you like about professional skateboarding?
I love the freedom that it gives me in my life.   I also really like to travel and see new places.

Have you been to china?
Not yet, but I am really looking forward to going there.   Premium is woking on a potential China tour(get it?, wok-ing!)

What about contests?   You seem to skate a lot of contests...
Most of the contests are super fun for me.   I just like to be around skateboarding and skating with other pros.   Some of the best sessions I've ever seen have been at contests.   Plus, by going to contests, I get to travel more and see new places.

Do you skate a lot of skateparks?
I do skate skateparks, but my roots are in the streets and I will always be skating a lot of street.

What do you think about the guys that just skate the skatepark all the time to train for the contests?
I think that they are missing out on so many parts of skateboarding.   It's kind of sad, really.

What are your plans for 2005?
I will be doing some contests and tours, but I'm going to try and focus on street skating.   I would like to film a couple good video parts and stockpile some photos.

Where do you see skateboarding going in the future?
I think you will see more Danny Way super ramp type stuff.   Also, I think that there will be a lot more street plaza style parks built.   I think that skateboarding will continue to grow in the mainstream.   I think it's hard to predict how the core market will react to that.

How about international skaters?
I think that as time passes there will be a lot more international guys getting in the mix.   California just got a headstart on most of the other countries.   It's good to see skaters from obscure places coming up.

Do you have any closing words?
Yeah, Skate and Create, Skate and Destroy, It doesn't really matter if you are a girl or a boy.
